How We Choose Products

What counts as left-handed

A product earns a place in our guides in one of three ways:

  • Built left-handed. The maker produces a mirrored version, such as a left-handed guitar, golf club, or pair of scissors.
  • Symmetrical. The product works the same in either hand, such as an ambidextrous mouse or a keyboard without a number pad.
  • Solves a left-hander's problem. The product is not handed, but it fixes something lefties run into, such as fast-drying ink.

Each guide says which of the three applies to each pick. We do not describe a right-handed product as left-handed.

How we pick

  • We confirm the left-handed version exists. We check the maker's specifications or the retail listing for a left-hand model or option.
  • We check that it is in stock. Left-handed versions sell out and get discontinued more often than right-handed ones, so we favor products that are consistently available.
  • We read the specifications. Our descriptions come from the maker's published details.
  • We look at owner feedback. We favor products with a long record of buyer reviews over new listings with few.

What we do not claim

We do not have a test lab, and we have not used every product we list. When a guide says a product is the best pick, that is our judgment from the research above, not the result of a hands-on test. If we have used a product ourselves, the guide says so.

We do not show prices, because they change and Amazon's terms do not allow us to display them. Each product button opens the current listing.

  • "Check Amazon Price" opens the exact product on Amazon.
  • "Find It on Amazon" opens an Amazon search, used when we could not match one exact listing.
  • "View at" a maker's name opens the maker's own site. We earn nothing from those links.

Some Amazon listings sell the right-handed and left-handed versions on one page. Where that applies, the guide tells you to select the left-hand option before buying.

Amazon links are affiliate links. See our disclosures for how that works. Affiliate commissions do not decide which products we include.

Corrections

If a product we list is discontinued, mislabeled, or not actually left-handed, tell us and we will fix the guide.
